Savannah Quarters Country Club is home to a Norman-designed, 7,066-yard, par-72 golf course. Adding both beauty and recreation to the community, the golf course is an 18-hole Low Country masterpiece. Winding through towering oaks, cypress trees and lagoons, the course challenges golfers with natural hazards as well as its tournament-quality greens.
“When I first became involved in this project, I had a vision to make it one of the best residential golf neighborhoods in the Southeast and I wanted to demonstrate that by designing a new course that would provide a more playable environment to a broader group of golfers, yet still provide a challenge to professionals,” Norman said.
“Playability was definitely our main concern when it came to designing the golf course. The best way to accomplish this is by providing multiple tee boxes and including several risk-reward scenarios. While more experienced players can take an aggressive route on these holes, there are still plenty of options for the more
conservative golfer.”
Norman and his team from Greg Norman Golf Course Design also had to take into consideration the location of Savannah Quarters and the region's weather. Being located in Savannah, Georgia, this course was designed to be enjoyable throughout the different climate changes during all seasons.
"Agronomics and the quality of the course infrastructure were very important to me. I knew it was vital to build a course that would be able to handle the region's varying weather throughout the year and still provide a golf experience that was in tune with this particular setting and atmosphere." |
