| Savannah Area |
Long-regarded as the jewel of the South, Savannah is known for its colorful past, breathtaking architecture and old-world charm. While the pulse of Savannah matches that of any large city with nightlife, distinctive art, culture and busy port – it’s the pace and Southern dignity, that uniquely defines Savannah. Savannah is also known for having world class music and film festivals, events in the park, and is home to the second largest St. Patrick's Day Parade in the United States. Famous people like Paula Deen, Johnny Mercer, and Flannery O'Conner were born here! Savannah is Georgia’s first city and a very special place. Originally founded by James Oglethorpe in 1733, the city’s downtown was structured with a number of common squares placed throughout the downtown area. Today, those squares are decorated with centuries-old live oaks, fountains, statues and admirers. From River Street and Forsythe Park to splendid marshlands and a beautiful coastline along the Atlantic Ocean, Savannah offers something for everyone.
