Savannah Quarters® Celebrates Grand Opening of New Tennis Courts on August 21
New Courts Double Size of Tennis Facilities in Master-Planned Community;
Over 100 Guests Enjoyed Ribbon-Cutting, Exhibition Tennis Match and Refreshments
POOLER, GA., Aug. 22, 2014 – Savannah Quarters® Country Club celebrated the grand opening of two new tennis courts on Thursday, Aug. 21, with a ribbon-cutting, exhibition tennis matches and champagne reception attended by more than 100 guests. The completion of the two courts doubles the size of the Club’s tennis facilities to four side-by-side courts that are part of the master-planned community’s fitness and recreation center.
In addition to the courts, the Club has also installed a variety of new tennis equipment that includes new benches, ball/water holder trays, score cards, shoe cleaning tubs and water cooler stands. The new equipment creates a more convenient playing experience for Club members, allows the Club to host added Savannah Tennis League matches and also makes the courts eligible to host future tournaments.
For the Savannah Quarters® residents who play on the community’s three teams in the area-wide Savannah Tennis League, all three teams can now play simultaneously against league opponents on home turf. Prior to the expansion, only two teams could play at Savannah Quarters® while a third team had to travel offsite.
“The Savannah Quarters® Country Club’s members and staff are very happy to see the opening of these additional tennis courts because our residents will have more opportunities to play and exercise on these excellent facilities,” said Zsofia Golopencza, Director of Recreation at Savannah Quarters® Country Club. “As another plus by having four courts, the Club can be considered for tournament competition and we can host Savannah Tennis League team matches with all three of our teams playing at home.”
Joining tennis pro Golopencza in an exhibition tennis match at the grand opening were three past NCAA tennis champions from Armstrong State University: Kristen Finlen, Dziyana Nazaruk and Kathleen Henry.
The Savannah Tennis League sees the participation of approximately 500 women from the Savannah area each season. The league has two seasons of play, fall and spring, and the matches consist of a scheduled circuit of doubles competitions that are organized according to playing levels based on participants’ experience and skill. The private clubs and public parks where league play takes place include Savannah Quarters® and seven other facilities.
