Savannah Quarters Homeowners Share Holiday Traditions

December 18th, 2019

The holiday season is here once again, and our residents are making the Savannah Quarters community merry and bright! No matter if your traditions include sipping eggnog with close friends and strolling through the neighborhood enjoying all the lights, there’s no place better to enjoy the most wonderful time of year than right here.

We spoke with some of our wonderful homeowners to learn about their holiday traditions and their plans this year:

Tammy H.
SQ: What is your favorite part about Savannah Quarters during the holidays?
TH: I enjoy the tree lighting. It’s always fun to watch the children get so excited to see Santa turn on the tree.
SQ: How do you and your family decorate for the holidays?
TH: The Saturday morning after Thanksgiving, the whole family gets together and we cook a big breakfast. Then Chris and Taylor (husband/son) get all the Christmas decorations out of the storage area and we begin to decorate outside putting up the lights and garland. Ever since Taylor and Summer (daughter) started college, we take a break to watch the UGA/GA Tech football game since we are a family divided! After the game, Summer and I decorate the tree and the inside of the house while the guys watch other football games.

SQ: What traditions do your family enjoy during this holiday season?
TH: Since the kids were little, we pick a night and have a progressive dinner while going to different areas of the city to look at lights.

SQ:  What is your favorite Southern food for the holidays?
TH: Smoked turkey and cornbread dressing!!

SQ:
What is your favorite part about Savannah Quarters during the holidays?
MT: My favorite part about living in Savannah Quarters during the holidays is how much our neighbors get involved in decorating their home with Christmas decorations and how beautifully decorated the Club looks. Chuck, Ellie and I love riding on the golf cart through the neighborhood and looking at all the festive lights and decorations put up by our neighbors and the community!

SQ: How do you and your family decorate for the holidays?
MT: Chuck and I have a daughter named, Ellie, who is six years old.  She loves and insists that we put out our inflatable Mickey and Minnie Mouse as well as Olaf in our front yard. We are also like to put up our Christmas tree before Thanksgiving. It really warms up the house and puts us in the Christmas spirit especially when it’s cold outside.

SQ: What traditions do your family enjoy during this holiday season?
MT: A tradition we enjoy during the holiday season is Chuck and Ellie’s Pajama Christmas Party. We invite our family and closest friends over to our house for homemade hot chocolate, shortbread cookies for the kids to decorate and we also make some sort of Christmas craft. Every family comes dressed in their matching pajamas and we turn on the music and dance with the kids and have a great time! This is a tradition we started 4 years ago.

SQ: What is your favorite Southern food for the holidays?
MT: My favorite southern food for the holidays is fried turkey with green bean casserole and pecan pie. I grew up in Louisiana, so we also make a large pot of seafood gumbo with potato salad on Christmas Eve. It’s so delicious and tastes like home!
