Savannah Sights, Sounds, Sports and More

June 14th, 2022

It’s no secret that we at Savannah Quarters® love our city. Recently, it seems that some of our favorite local highlights and haunts are also no secret! From baseball to beaches, the rest of the nation is realizing just how much there is to discover in this incredible place. You never have to go far from your home to find plenty of activities that appeal to all ages and interests.

June 21 marks the calendar year’s start of summer, but we’ve been feeling the heat for a while now. Let’s make the most of both the warm weather and our hometown! Read on for some of our best suggestions on things to see, hear, taste, experience and cheer on.

Making Waves
Savannah is sitting pretty near the coastline, outlined by the Atlantic ocean and just a hop, skip and jump away from many beautiful islands. And while there’s more than enough to do on dry land, you’ll welcome a beach day when the options include some of the top locales in the whole country!

Try taking a trip to Tybee Island’s North Beach, which Travel + Leisure recently named one of America’s very best. Spot a sea turtle, collect shells, surf the waves or just relax on the sand with that beach read you’ve had your eye on. You deserve to spend a day (or week) on island time.

Gone (Savannah) Bananas
Summer’s the season for America’s pastime, and the baseball team that’s captured the hearts of the nation isn’t even in the MLB! That’s right, the Savannah Bananas, members of the Coastal Plain League, have gotten so popular that The New York Times calls them “the most watchable team in baseball.” The L.A. Times agrees, praising their “formula that people seem to understand immediately, simple and joyous.”

The Bananas’ motto is “We make baseball fun,” and they take their mission very seriously. Fans come from far and wide to see the team that hits home runs but also choreographs dances (@thesavbananas have 2.5 million followers and counting on TikTok.) Savannah residents, however, get the privilege of going bananas routing for their own home team.

More Fun Around Town

We’d be remiss not to mention the Plant Riverside District. All summer long, stop by the vibrant riverfront entertainment destination for live music, magic, circus, and inspired dining experiences. Next, believe it or not, Independence Day isn’t far away! Enjoy the fireworks on the Tybee Island pier or visit Fort McAllister State Park for their Civil War period celebration.

Anticipating August, get your tickets now for the Savannah VOICE Festival, which just announced the lineup for its 10th anniversary season. The jam-packed festival will run from Aug. 7–21, at a range of venues in Savannah, and will feature presentations from opera, musical theater and popular songs.

There are so many activities to discover in this historic yet dynamic city, all close to your home –– or future home –– at Savannah Quarters. We’d love to see you at some of these exciting events!
