It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year—for Golf.
Late fall at Savannah Quarters® is the perfect time to do…well, just about anything. The weather is cooler, humidity is nonexistent, and everyone seems to have a bit more spring in their step. This is especially true at The Club at Savannah Quarters®, where the extensive bunker renovations that were underway July through September have been completed, and avid golfers are eager to test their skills.
Blue skies, green fairways, and white sand everywhere.
Jonathan Mattox, Director of Golf at The Club, couldn’t be more pleased with the results. “We worked closely with Greg Norman Golf to improve bunker playability and aesthetics,” he says. “We’ve changed the contours, improved the drainage, and replaced old sand in the bunkers with brand new white sand. The course looks absolutely beautiful.”
While a new porous concrete drainage system might not sound like the newest innovation in golf, it will make a big difference after the course experiences one of those torrential downpours that Savannah is so famous for, eliminating the problem of standing water in the bunkers. “These improvements will give us great playing conditions immediately after a rainfall, and for many years to come,” Jonathan explains.
As is often the case, less is more.
As part of the renovation, some bunkers got smaller and four of them—those that were not really in play anyway—have been completely removed. This results in less square footage of sand traps overall. While that might sound like good news to duffers, it benefits everyone. “We have increased playability and aesthetics across all handicaps,” says Jonathan. That adds up to better rounds and more fun for golfers at every level, even scratch golfers.
If you love golf, now’s the time to play.
“This is the A-1 time of year to play,” enthuses Jonathan. “Golf in the fall means great weather. Even on the chilliest days, by mid-day, the temperatures are nice again.”
The Club at Savannah Quarters® is hosting more Member events at this time of year, to take advantage of the ideal conditions. The Bermuda fairways are pigmented now, so the course will retain its aesthetically pleasing green look throughout the winter months (even more so with all that new white sand). With the holidays approaching, you can be sure Members will be inviting their guests to play a round, show off The Club, and perhaps make them a little green with envy as well.
