July Made Memorable With These Fun Events

August 1st, 2023

From neighborhood barbeques with friends and family to community events and coastal celebrations, there were countless celebrations throughout the area all month long. Our residents and all of Savannah found some memorable ways to beat the July heat! Check out the ways our community came together this July to fill the air with excitement and the night sky with fireworks!

Savannah Stars and Stripes July 4th Weekend Celebration & Fireworks
The Plant Riverside District along the historic waterfront hosted the Savannah Stars and Stripes July 4th Celebration with live music and family-friendly activities for all ages. The musical entertainment included live performances from military bands throughout the weekend. After dark, the district’s iconic smokestacks, fountains and other landmarks were illuminated in red, white, and blue beneath a spectacular fireworks display.

Fort McAllister State Park Summer Camp
Just a 30-minute drive south of Pooler is Fort McAllister State Park, a 1,725-acre historic site that’s a summer must-see. In July, Fort McAllister held Junior Ranger Camp for kids ages 9-11. Together they studied coastal ecosystems, mastered wilderness survival skills, and learned what the daily lives of soldiers at Fort McAllister was like.

Shark Week at Tybee Island
Tybee Island is always a great place for stunning front views. It’s also a great place to experience Shark Week in real life at the Tybee Island Marine Science Center. From July 10-18, seeking to “replace fear with facts,” the Marine Science Center taught the public facts about the often misunderstood predators, showed scientific demonstrations on how they’re researched, and passed out shark teeth.

Amateur Golf Excellence
It wasn’t quite Augusta, though we’re always happy to host some friendly competition. The Mediocre Golf Association (MGA), an amateur golf league, held a 1-day tournament here in what turned out to be a fun-filled day. Special congratulations to the winners Kenny Conroy, Marc Tamminen and Jacob Kubnick.
